Our Inspiration

David Benay, a certified teacher from Ontario, has specialized in personal training since 2006 and has worked with children for 17 years. It was by combining his two passions of teaching and training that he created the Well-Being at School through Physical Activity and Self-Regulation course. His classroom bike project won him a national award from the Canadian Education Association for innovation in teaching and learning. In addition, he often offers his services to Ophea, True Sport, Le sport, c’est pour la vie and PHE Canada. A sportsman at heart and concerned about the well-being of students, David Benay knows how to spread his passion for well-being on a small and large scale to the delight of students and the school community.

Project Description

Several scientific studies have shown that a child's level of physical activity is directly related to their physical health, mental health and academic performance. Nowadays, it is known and publicized by the media, that children do not participate enough in physical activities. As a result, they are not healthy and do not have the ability to concentrate in the classroom. We therefore aim, by inserting bicycles in classrooms, to improve not only the physical health of students but to contribute to the improvement of their academic performance and their mental health. In addition, often this lack of physical activity is more serious in low-income household settings.

Our common project

This year, I will honour my daughters by creating a mental health fund. This fund will subsidize organisms that help and equip children by the creation of prevention programs in mental health. Leadership scholarships will be given to teens who show their involvement in promoting healthy living for youth in their community. There will also be funds available to help organisms that offer therapy for children who are victims of violence or sexual abuse.
